Why Ruxstons has so many Gluten free options?


Ruxstons is gaining a reputation for being one of the best Gluten free shops in Somerset and Devon. Interestingly we never set out to target catering for this group of the population, however the more Gluten free items we stocked the more business came our way and we simply developed a reputation for it.


People informed us that ranges were being reduced in supermarkets based in the Somerset area. Initially we started out selling a few gluten free biscuits and some pasta made with brown rice and quinoa but we are now developing our range of Gluten free Pork Sausages. This first trial has been a complete success, with just pork trim, salt and pepper, this sausage is as natural as it can get. As a result far more of our customers who previously purchased our standard pasture raised Pork Sausages with rusk in have opted for the gluten free option. They are a little more expensive to produce as the price of rusk is lower than good quality pork mince however the reaction to the sausages has confirmed to us that this is the correct decision.

Without using a rusk, and as our new pork sausage is 100% meat, we have found that our sausages lose almost no weight during cooking, and the perfect balance of meat and fat creates a juicy and pleasantly strong flavour. Another reason to buy Ruxstons gluten free Pork Sausages? There are no artificial preservatives in the ingredients, as we freeze all meat the moment it returns from the butcher, we have no need to have them added.


Whilst we don’t yet stock our entire Wellington shop online more of our gluten free items are beginning to be added. We sell the Glebe farm range online along with the Somerset made easy bean crackers.
