These are whole Kalamata olives, a famous Greek variety with a distinct almond-like shape and naturally deep purple colour. Grown in the southern Peloponnese region, Kalamata olives have been cultivated since antiquity and are still hand-harvested today. Preserved in brine, they retain their natural nutrients, including fibre, healthy fats and antioxidants such as polyphenols, which have been studied for their role in supporting heart health. Olives are technically a fruit, belonging to the drupe family alongside cherries and apricots.
